Ceremonial Single Cultivar
- Size
A single-cultivar ceremonial-grade matcha, made from Gokou tencha. First flush. Grown, harvested, and processed in Uji, Kyoto — 100% Uji-grown tencha.
Gokou was developed in Uji and is grown almost nowhere else. The cultivar is the point: nothing is blended in to round it off.
Layered sweetness that unfolds slowly; rich umami
An open, floral aroma that carries the cultivar's signature
Balanced for drinking straight; usucha shows it best
Grown in small volume. Hard to source, and hard to substitute.

A Cultivar of Uji

A Character Left Intact
Gokou was developed in Kyoto and remains closely associated with Uji. This matcha is made from first-flush Gokou tencha grown, harvested, and processed in Uji, with no second cultivar added to round its edges.
Single-cultivar matcha is not about uniformity. It is about allowing one plant's character to remain legible from aroma to finish.

A Cultivar to Keep Distinct
Gokou is selected when cultivar identity needs to remain visible on the menu. Its layered sweetness, floral aroma, and rich umami read most clearly in water, without another cultivar blended in to soften the profile.
Production is limited and substitution changes the product's meaning. For wholesale selection, it works best as a named single-cultivar offering for usucha, tastings, or origin-led service rather than as an anonymous house matcha. That specificity should remain visible in service and purchasing records.
